Mobile Food Pantries

Bringing food out into the communities we serve

Mobile Food Pantries

Our mobile food pantries

are Saturday morning food distribution events that take place at local area high schools. We typically schedule more than a dozen of these from March through December as a means of providing additional access to food within the different communities we serve.

We partner with Second Harvest Food Bank, which provides 25,000 pounds of food at each event.  Our staff and volunteers unload the truck and portion the food into individual servings, before loading them into cars that drive through the distribution area.

Guests can pick up groceries for up to three families such that even those who are unable to attend can receive food.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 25,000 pounds of food provided by Second Harvest for each mobile food pantry typically allows us to provide a healthy variety and quantity of food for up to 300 families.

Yes!  Part of the purpose of mobile food pantries is to bring food distribution closer to families in need in our communities.  Guests who come to pick up food can do so for up to three families.

In the case of rain, we try to make accommodations with tents and building overhangs such that we can continue with food distribution. In the case of lightening or strong storms, we will suspend operations until volunteers can safely continue.

Absolutely!  We need at least 75 volunteers for each of these events in order to portion the food and distribute it to our guests.  And mobile food pantries are great for whole families, as kids, parents and grandparents can all have fun participating.
