God provides right on time…

On the morning of June 16, 2026, one of our truck drivers called while out on a food rescue at Food Lion in Spring Hill. His refrigerated box truck was completely full of rescued food. But suddenly the truck would not start.

The day before, the truck had begun displaying warning lights, but we had not yet had an opportunity to investigate the issue. After speaking with the neighboring auto parts store, it was determined that the truck needed three new batteries, each costing approximately $186. The auto store was kind enough to offer us a discount on the batteries, but we faced another challenge: finding someone to install them.

The batteries on a box truck are located beneath the cab, making them difficult to access. We called one of our mechanics, but he did not answer. We contacted a mobile diesel mechanic in the area and were unable to reach him as well. Meanwhile, the truck was sitting in a busy parking lot, full of perishable food that needed to remain refrigerated and be delivered back to the pantry as quickly as possible.

Then God stepped in.

I agreed to meet our driver in the auto parts store next to Food Lion to help sort out the problem. As we were discussing the situation there, a young man walked into the store. Covered in grease and stopping by to purchase oil, he looked like he might be a mechanic. The driver and I glanced at each other and said, “Should we ask him?”

So we did.

Not only was he a mechanic, but he was a diesel mechanic. Even more incredibly, he had time to help us right then and there.

He went to his vehicle, gathered his battery testers and tools, and got down on the hot parking lot blacktop to replace all three batteries. Within a short time, the truck was running again and ready to continue its mission of rescuing food for families in need.

When we offered to pay him for his time and expertise, he politely declined. He simply said he was happy to help.

Sometimes God’s provision comes in ways we never expect. That morning, it came through a diesel mechanic carrying a toolbox and a servant’s heart. Angels truly come in all shapes and sizes. God sees our needs, hears our prayers, and often sends exactly the right person at exactly the right moment.
